Authentic antique 19th century porcelain figure portraying a Napoleonic General, Antoine-Louis-Charles LaSalle. Antoine-Louis-Charles LaSalle was the complete cavalry commander and was especially adept at reading the contours of the ground over which he was expected to charge. He had no fear of death or mutilation. Indeed, he was famously quoted as saying that a respectable hussar should not expect to live beyond the age of 30. He was in fact 34 when he was killed at Wagram in July of 1809, shot through the forehead, he was dead before his body hit the ground. He is wearing a blue dolman with a gold laced jacket, a red embroidered in gold leaves collar, white riding breeches (pantalons de cheval), sash, curved Mameluk style scimitar saber and bicorn decorated with gold lace and white plume feathers. This figure is a true masterpiece in porcelain with fine sculptured and hand painted details. The Figure is hand signed on the bottom of the base in blue cobalt under the glaze by a well-known, 19th Century, German porcelain manufacturer- Sitzendorf, circa 1870. The porcelain is in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or restorations. Height: 33 cm (13 inches). |
