Antique 19th century circa 1830 Russian porcelain vase from the period
of Nicholas I (1825-55) executed in a distinctive Imperial manner in a
neoclassic amphora shape luxuriously gilded in 24K gold. The front
depicts the interior of a house with a finely painted scene of two men
playing checkers watched by a standing woman holding a child, a border
in tolled and burnished gold gilding, the obverse with a further
burnished gild medallion with classical scrolling foliage on a blue
ground flanked by elaborate gild handles in the Sturgeon form. A
flared neck and lower body decorated with raised leaf motives
supported on a fluted – circular foot with a flared rim coast with
leaves on a square base. There is no manufacturer mark, which was worn
by the washing and cleaning of the vase during its 170 year history,
as the mark was painted on the surface of the glaze. The vase is made
of three separate elements as follows: The main body and the base is
made from two separate elements and fastened together by brass screws.
CONDITION: Some wear and paint loss ,crack in the right handle and two chips on the foot.
Pictures of the damaged handle from both sides, and the two chips on
the base are attached to the listing. The vase has no restorations, so
there are no surprises as cracks or reconstructed missing parts hidden
by restoration. These small damages can be easily invisibly repaired,
however we leave the decision to the future owner. HEIGHT: 45 cm (17 3
3/4 in). |
