Antique Indo Persian Sword Shamshir, 18th century
Antique 18th century Islamic sword - Shamshir in the traditional Persian style with a curved single edged blade made of Damascus steel Wootz. The pattern is not visible since the entire surface of the blade is slightly pitted, to make the pattern clearly visible the blade has to be repolished. Hilt construction: dark brown horn grips, steel pommel and steel crossguard with long quillons of square section and knob finials. The sword has a very good balance and is still very sharp.
CONDITION: The sword is with wear and pitting.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length: 92 cm (36 ¼ in).
REFERENCES: According to Ukrainian experts these types of Ottoman swords were very popular among the Ukrainian and Don Cossacks.
