Antique 18th century Indo Persian Dagger Jambiya
[ES333]
Important 18th century Persian dagger Jambiya from the Qajar Dynasty.
DETAILS: Double-edged curved blade with medial ridge and kened point, designed for piercing chain mail, made of superb quality Damascus steel wootz. An upper panel on each side carved with animals in a gold inlaid border. The waisted steel hilt is of typical form chiseled with busts of Persian kings and perching birds among flowers and rococo shells (European influence). The solid steel scabbard is decorated ensuite with the hilt with carved busts of the Persian king's birds and rococo shells. Most of these types of daggers that are seen on the market are from the 19th century and are with acid etched decoration instead of carved, and are lower quality blades instead of sturdy Damascus steel blades.
